2023 - makoi and rainforest?
Square meters of rainforest
The first 300 square meters of rainforest for the makoi Family!
"The rainforest - a magical place full of life, colors, and secrets. But this fascinating and valuable part of our planet is in great danger. We, the Makoi family, have decided not only to actively engage in marine conservation but also to actively promote the preservation of the rainforest. The loss of rainforest areas has far-reaching consequences for the climate, wildlife, and humanity as a whole. We have entered into a wilderness sponsorship, thus protecting the first 300 square meters of rainforest in Peru in the name of Makoi. With our latest commitment, we aim to raise more awareness for the rainforest and its unique biosphere."

2021 – 2022 SAVE AN ANIMAL LIFE
Ecuador – Centro de Rehabilitación de Fauna Marino Costera
Donation counter 2021
In cooperation with our friend Stephanie Schnellmann we support a project in Ecuador.
The rehabilitation center "Centro de Rehabilitación de Fauna Marino Costera" works for the protection of the animals in Ecuador.
We care very much about this project. Our donations go directly to the responsible persons of the animal rehabilitation center. Through our direct contact we can follow how and where exactly our donations are used. We would like to help support the center and its valuable work.
We know Stephanie from Switzerland. She is a good friend of the Makoi family and currently lives in Ecuador. There she is our volunteer and direct contact person and takes care of our project on site. She is an absolute nature lover and stands up for the protection of our environment. She care very much about the help for "animals in need".
On site in Ecuador, Ruben is the veterinarian. He depends on any help and donations, because the rehabilitation center hardly gets any support from the state. At the center, they take in any kind of injured or weakened animals to vet them, care for them, and offer them the best possible recovery. The animal patients can simply be dropped off. The team around Ruben will take care of them. Ruben's rehabilitation center specializes mainly in marine life.
One of these animals is the sea turtle. Three-fifths of all turtle species worldwide are on the verge of extinction or are already severely threatened. It would be fatal if these fascinating armored animals disappeared forever. Not only for their own sake, they also contribute significantly to a healthy ecosystem. The herbivores, carnivores or omnivores are at the same time hunters, pest controllers and food sources for other animals.
The reasons why these fantastic creatures are threatened with extinction include poaching and trade. Bycatch, plastic and tourism are also major threats to sea turtles. Sea turtles are also threatened with extinction by rising sea levels due to climate change.
We donate to Ruben, in order to protect these very important animals for our ecosystem. Ruben should get more support in his work and expand the rehabilitation center. He needs more space to create optimal conditions for the care of the animals. The big goal of the center is to bring the animals back to their natural environment. The animals should be able to survive in the wild again on their own. It is also very important that the animals can fully recover after operations. In order to fulfill these tasks, medical equipment is urgently needed.
Who is Ruben? His full name is Rubén Alemán Lucero. He is a veterinarian and zoo technician and has been working for conservation for 20 years. His specialties are conservation medicine and wildlife medicine. Ruben is also a certified assistance dog trainer and animal behavior specialist. He currently works at Machalilla National Park and is responsible for biodiversity technical management.
After gathering information about marine animal mortality and thereby realizing that 98 percent of sea turtle mortality is caused by humans, he founded the Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center in 2013. The center is now almost 9 years old and continues to operate thanks to self-help and support from NGOs, foundations, friends and private benefactors.
With your help and your purchase of our products, YOU also support Ruben and his team in Ecuador and thus contribute to something valuable. Help protect our planet and become part of the Makoi family!
